Speaking to TV Guide, Ackles shared his pitch for the return of Sam and Dean Winchester. "I kind of feel [Warner Bros.] were watching 15 years of a small-screen buddy comedy! I have this lofty dream of when, after things have settled, we'll tackle one more case as Sam and Dean," Ackles said.
Despite proving to be one of The CW's most popular series, concluded its 15-season run in 2020. Ackles is widely-recognized for playing protagonist Dean Winchester alongside long-time colleague and friend Jared Padalecki, who co-stars as Sam Winchester.
While the beloved show may not return any time soon, fans of the universe can look forward to focusing on Sam and Dean's parents years before the start of . and will see Ackles reprise his role as Dean, acting as the series' narrator. He will also serve as the executive producer. It's currently unknown whether Padalecki is also attached to the project.

"It took [writer] Robbie [Thompson] and me sitting down going like, 'Well, we know we have to do this, and we know we have to do that, but if we just connect those dots with a straight line, that's not entertaining. That's boring. That's a simple story. If we connect those dots in a much crazier, wild
way, then we've got a show.'"
