Matthew Perry has revealed that his former Friends co-stars may not have any interest in reading his new memoir, Friends, Lovers and the Big Terrible Thing. In the book, the 53-year-old actor opens up about his battle with substance abuse while he was playing the role of Chandler Bing on the hit sitcom. Speaking in an interview with GQ, Perry acknowledged that his deeply personal and sometimes harrowing story may not resonate with his former colleagues.
"Nor do I think that they will," he said. "Why would they read it? I don't know. Because, you know, who cares?
Addicts are going to care about this, and fans of Friends are going to care about this. But the cast is not going to really care about this." Perry did mention that there was one exception, with Lisa Kudrow, who portrayed Phoebe on the show, reading the book and even writing the introduction.
In the introduction, Kudrow admitted that it was "the first time I'm hearing what living with and surviving his addiction really was." In an interview with PEOPLE, Perry expressed gratitude for the support he received from his castmates during their time on Friends.
