Fans weren't sure if 'Fuller House' would be the same in Michelle Tanner's absence. But despite plenty of rumors about Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen reprising their shared role, the twins never made it onto a single episode of the new show.
And there's no denying that over the years. It would be hard to swap Mary-Kate and Ashley now that they're no longer tots who look almost exactly alike.
Still, the cast's dynamic has remained the same.
In fact, even the characters' storylines in 'Fuller House' are just like the events that happened on its sister show. This leads fans to the realization that having Michelle Tanner on the show would have messed things up for at least one Tanner family member.
After all, the reboot's arc is following a similar storyline to the original. On the now-iconic '90s sitcom (which actually began in 1987), Danny (Bob Saget) was a widower, raising his three daughters DJ, Stephanie, and Michelle on his own.
Luckily, he had the help of his brother-in-law Jesse (John Stamos) and childhood friend Joey (Dave Coulier) to get by.
On 'Fuller House,' DJ (Candace Cameron Bure) is the one raising three kids alone after the passing of her husband. Her sister Stephanie (Jodie Sweetin) and BFF Kimmy (Andrea Barber) step in to help her raise the kids. Michelle's absence is explained away a few times, but honestly, Stephanie probably wouldn't have cared.
As explained, Michelle's presence would have thrown a wrench in the wedding episode featuring DJ and Kimmy. Plus, the dynamic would have been off with having the third sister around. Remember, the premise is that DJ has two support people, just like her dad did, to get her through life.
In reality, it would seem the entire cast is better off without Michelle due to the way the plot is structured.
