In the middle of a tense, atmospheric episode, Spencer Reid (Matthew Gray Gubler) struggles with turning 30. The team doesn't, though--all they're concerned with is the fact that they might have missed their friend's birthday. With the conclusion of a case and a criminal put into custody, they conclude the episode by throwing their genius a birthday party.
As tense as the show can get, it's always supplemented by the support that the team offers each other, and small moments like this can ring the loudest--perhaps especially in a show so dedicated to psychologically analyzing gruesome murders.
Emily Prentiss (
While this perhaps wasn’t the best way to deal with the situation, it did show how much Emily Prentiss cares about the team.
Maeve Donovan was a short-lived character on the show, and she didn’t get much time to explore her long-distance relationship with Spencer Reid, but her death devastated and impacted him for years to come. Maeve recurred throughout the series in hallucinations and dreams, reinforcing how much she meant to him, and the BAU team show their support for him after her death time and time again.
