Jared Padalecki and his wife Genevieve are among a growing number of celebrities who have made the decision to leave behind their Hollywood lifestyles and relocate to the South to raise their families. The couple, who first met on the set of the popular TV show Supernatural, now reside in Austin, Texas, along with their three children and three dogs. They made the move from Los Angeles to the Texas capital in 2010 and purchased their current home in 2012, long before the Covid pandemic prompted a wave of stars to make the same transition.

In a home tour with Architectural Digest in 2021, Jared and Genevieve explained that they were drawn to Texas because of its slower pace.

With Los Angeles behind them, they have spent the past decade turning their once cavernous farmhouse into a warm and inviting retreat, complete with a vegetable garden, chicken coop, and even four bee colonies. When it comes to life in Austin, Jared, a native of San Antonio, shares a similar mindset with another famous resident of the unique Texas city, Matthew McConaughey.

The former star of Gilmore Girls agrees that even with the recent influx of new residents, Austin isn't for everyone. "If you come to Austin and you can't embrace the laid-back Austin lifestyle, then you probably won't last here," Jared noted in his interview with AD.
