Following the sudden and tragic death of Matthew Perry, the actor's "Friends" co-stars have united in mourning the devastating loss. Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, and David Schwimmer issued a joint statement through People on Monday expressing their profound grief over Perry's passing. These five actors, alongside Perry, captivated audiences in the beloved NBC ensemble sitcom "Friends," which aired for 10 seasons from 1994 to 2004.
Together, they appeared in all 236 episodes of the show. "We are all completely shattered by the loss of Matthew. We were more than simply co-stars; we were a family," the statement reads. "There are so many words left unsaid, but for now, we will take the time to grieve and process this unimaginable loss. When the time is right, we will share more about him. But, at this moment, our hearts and support go out to Matty's family, friends, and all those who adored him worldwide.
The comedic actor, known for his role as Chandler, as well as his performances in "Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip" and the 2017 reboot of "The Odd Couple," was found unresponsive in his hot tub, leading authorities to suspect he drowned. The exact cause of death is yet to be determined. On "Friends," Perry flawlessly portrayed the witty, sarcastic, and endearing character of Chandler, earning him an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series in 2002.
Since the news of Perry's death broke, numerous collaborators from his past projects have paid tribute to him. In a joint statement, "Friends" co-creators Marta Kauffman and David Crane, along with executive producer Kevin Bright, described the late Chandler Bing as "a brilliant talent.
" "We are deeply shocked and saddened by the passing of our dear friend Matthew. It still feels inconceivable. All we can acknowledge is how fortunate we were to have him be a part of our lives. He was an extraordinary talent," the trio stated. "It sounds cliché to say that an actor makes a role their own, but with Matthew, no statement could be truer. From the moment we first heard him embody the character of Chandler Bing, there was no one else who could match his brilliance. We will forever cherish the laughter, the brightness, and the unparalleled intelligence he brought to every moment, both on and off set. He always held the title of the funniest person in the room, and beyond that, he possessed the kindest and most selfless heart."
