The character of Joey Tribbiani from the TV show Friends never tied the knot, and many fans wondered why. While all the other characters eventually got married, Joey's fear of commitment was the main reason he remained single. This fear hindered his ability to settle down and caused difficulty in his relationships. Despite not having a traditional happy ending, Joey's character development remained consistent.
In the spin-off series, Joey did find himself in a committed relationship with his neighbor and landlord, Alex.
Although they never walked down the aisle, their relationship allowed Joey to grow and become more grounded. His aversion to marriage was deeply rooted in his fear of commitment, a recurring theme throughout the series. Despite proposing to Phoebe and Rachel when he learned of their pregnancies, as well as being engaged to Alex, Joey's reluctance to marry was a defining characteristic.
The creators of the show believed that giving Joey a traditional happy ending, like the other characters, would have diminished his complexity as a character. Friends followed the lives of Monica, Rachel, Phoebe, Chandler, Ross, and Joey, six young adults in NYC.
