Following the recent news of the cancellation of the spin-off show "The Winchesters," Supernatural star Jensen Ackles has taken action. The CW network has decided to end the series after just one season, but Warner Bros Television, the show's producers, are hopeful of finding a new home for it. Ackles, who produced the show, is rallying fans to participate in a social media campaign to save the series.
He tweeted on Thursday, "Looks like we got work to do," along with the hashtag "#SaveTheWinchesters." Within hours, the hashtag began trending worldwide. Ackles is no stranger to the Supernatural franchise, having starred in the original series for all 15 seasons as Dean Winchester. "The Winchesters" is a prequel that focuses on the parents of Dean and his brother, Sam (played by Jared Padalecki).
The network, known for launching popular shows like Gossip Girl, Arrow, and Riverdale, is now shifting its focus to unscripted shows in an effort to increase profitability in the coming years. So far, the only scripted shows that have been renewed are All American and Walker. The fate of Superman & Lois, All American: Homecoming, and Gotham Knights has yet to be determined.
