SUPERNATURAL has successfully executed its series finale in a way that leaves longtime fans satisfied and without a desire to harm themselves or others. The finale is divided into two parts: the documentary "The Long Road Home" and the final episode titled "Carry On." "The Long Road Home" provides emotional and non-spoiler interviews with the main leads Jared Padalecki (Sam Winchester) and Jensen Ackles (Dean Winchester), as well as other regular cast members Misha Collins (the angel Castiel) and Alexander Calvert (half-angel/now-God Jack).
Creator Eric Kripke, executive producers Robert Singer and Andrew Dabb, and other long-time cast members also contribute.
Mark A. Sheppard (the demon Crowley) even makes an appearance, despite being absent from the series in recent seasons. The documentary also includes a montage of the iconic song "Carry On, Wayward Son," which serves as a recap of the series. The traditional end-of-season montage is absent from both the beginning and end of the final episode.
The actual series finale, "Carry On," begins with Sam and Dean waking up in the bunker on an apparently normal morning. Dean has adopted a dog and is in high spirits, while Sam misses Castiel and Jack.
