The first season of Supernatural features the use of fun aliases by brothers Dean and Sam as they try to rid the world of paranormal threats. One of their dad's old friends, Bobby Singer, becomes an important asset to them. In episode 4, the brothers use the names of one of the show's producers and production designer as fake IDs. Later on, Bobby's name is given to another character, creating a plot hole.
It turns out the name was never intended to be important and was only used as a quick job. The brothers may have used it as a way to feel a connection to their dad. Fortunately, they refrain from using fellow hunters' identities in future investigations to avoid unwanted attention.
