Beware: The following article contains spoilers for Supernatural season 3. If you haven't watched the previous seasons, check out my reviews HERE. Since I've seen most of the seasons, I'll also discuss how future seasons are set up, so consider yourself warned! In season 3 of Supernatural, Dean finds himself living on borrowed time after making a deal to save his brother Sam. This season delves into the consequences of that deal as Dean experiences different stages of recklessness, crossing off items on his bucket list, and ultimately realizing he doesn't want to die.
Meanwhile, Sam is desperate to save his brother, but if Dean tries to escape his fate, Sam will die instead. While trying to prevent Dean's impending demise in the pit, the Winchester brothers continue their hunting adventures and encounter new characters like Bela Talbot and Ruby. Despite being the shortest season, a lot transpires for the brothers. They face the culmination of the shapeshifter plot from season 1, gain more knowledge about demons after their escape from hell in season 2, and witness the downfall of their nemesis, Gordon.
Despite its shorter length, it benefits from a tighter plot and less filler episodes. Originally intended to have 22 episodes, the Writer's Guild of America strike compelled the writers to focus more on the plot to save Dean. This unintended outcome led to a more focused exploration of Dean's past, his thought processes, and the introduction of Lisa and Ben.
