Supernatural's first season centers around the Winchester brothers, Dean (Jensen Ackles) and Sam (Jared Padalecki), as they search for their missing father, John Winchester (Jeffery Dean Morgan). Their quest is driven by John's pursuit of the demon that killed their mother, Mary Winchester (Samantha Smith), over two decades ago. Each episode features the brothers battling various monsters, creating an anthology-like show with the overarching storyline of finding their father.
Separated at the start of the series, Sam attends college while Dean follows their father's footsteps.
However, Sam joins Dean on the road after his girlfriend, Jessica Moore (Adrianne Palicki), is murdered in the same manner as their mother. In this show, a hunt refers to taking down supernatural beings that harm humans or other supernatural creatures. The season's plot is relatively straightforward.
Sam and Dean hunt spirits connected to local legends in each episode. While the search for their father remains a constant concern, it is not fully explored until the season's closing episodes. As a result, the majority of the first 15 episodes feel like filler content.
Nevertheless, the demon Azazel (Fredric Lehne), responsible for killing Mary and Jessica, is introduced, and John has discovered the weapon capable of slaying the demon.
When Sam and Dean reunite with their father, they embark on a mission to locate the weapon, marking the beginning of a more engaging storyline. The plot involving John spans over two to three weeks while Sam and Dean dedicate months to finding him and gaining his cooperation. The genuine connection between Padalecki and Ackles is palpable, showcasing the bond between the Winchester brothers. Their interactions involve playful teasing, pranks, and occasional conflicts.
