There was some shocking season 2 news that arrived in July 2023. When it comes to cast members, much of the focus has been on the possible returns of Matthew Gray Gubler's Spencer Reid and Shemar Moore's Derek Morgan.

However, there is one former cast member whose return was though impossible and thus wasn't being discussed - until a chance meeting on the SAG-AFTRA picket line, that is. That name is Aaron Hotchner, played by Thomas Gibson. Hotch was the head of the BCU through most of the series and was the main star of the show. However, his time ended in controversy after CBS fired him following several accounts of on-set abuse allegations levied against him.

Though the season 2 news revealed it was , the show is still confirmed to be happening and was officially renewed in January 2023. Mirroring its decade-and-a-half run on CBS, has proven to be just as popular as its predecessor and was never really in any jeopardy of being canned on Paramount Plus.

With less pressure to rush out a complete network TV-length season, has the chance to continue beyond season 2 and blaze a trail for other procedurals by becoming a bona fide streaming institution.

The first season of debuted on Paramount Plus in November 2022, and season 2 was likely also slated to make its return around that same time.
