Why Mark Harmon's NCIS Opening Credits Removal Took 11 Months

Mark Harmon's departure from "NCIS" after 18 seasons surprised fans. Despite leaving the show, his name and picture remained in the opening credits for the rest of Season 19. The decision was seen as a tribute to Harmon and his character, Leroy Gibbs. Producer Steven D. Binder explained that they wanted Gibbs' presence to continue even without Harmon. There was also a possibility of Harmon returning in the future. However, after almost a year, Harmon's credit was finally removed from the credits ahead of Season 20. Sean Murray, who played Gibbs' protege, took his spot in the credits.
