It's the best Christmas present Law and Order: SVU fans could hope to receive. 

, 52, and Christopher Meloni, 55, took time out of their busy schedules to pose for a reunion selfie and were selfless enough to post the epic event on social media.

The former SVU star took to Instagram to share the shot of the former co-stars, captioning the photo: 'Friends at Xmas.'

The two look happy as they wrap their arms around each other in a friendly hug. 

Both appeared excited to see each other as they smiled brightly at the camera. Christopher showed off a bit of grey stubble, while Mariska looked gorgeous with just a small amount of makeup on her beautiful face.

It was a sad moment for fans when the strapping detective decided to leave the show in 2011 after failing to come to adequate contract agreements.

Mariska remained and has become the life-force of SVU with her character being promoted to Lieutenant and running the entire bureau. 

The extremely popular NBC show is currently in its 18th season and has remained one of the most popular on the network.
