Supernatural Spinoff The Winchesters Has a Five-Season Storyline Mapped Out
Executive producer Jensen Ackles reveals that despite the cancellation of The Winchesters at The CW, there is still plenty of story left to tell. Ackles and his team have already begun discussing what a second season of the Supernatural prequel series could look like. They are considering bringing back characters from the original Supernatural series to keep it exciting for both new and returning fans.
Showrunner Robbie Thompson has a five-season plan for the prequel's story, and Ackles hopes they will have the opportunity to execute it. He believes there is a way to keep The Winchesters alive and it would be a shame to let it go. Supernatural, which aired from 2005 to 2020, starred Ackles as Dean Winchester and Jared Padalecki as his brother, Sam Winchester. The Winchesters is a spinoff that focuses on Sam and Dean's parents, with Ackles reprising his role as Dean as the show's narrator.
The first season of The Winchesters consisted of 13 episodes and ran from October 2022 to March 2023. Unfortunately, the show was recently canceled and will not be returning for a second season on The CW. In response, Ackles launched the #SaveTheWinchesters campaign in hopes of finding the show a new home. Ackles expresses his gratitude for Supernatural's passionate fanbase, stating that their dedication speaks volumes. He remains optimistic about The Winchesters' future and attributes this optimism to the energy he felt on set with the cast and crew. Ackles jokes that he is typically more pessimistic, similar to his character Dean Winchester, but his crazy optimism for the show stems from the reasons it initially succeeded. He believes the show should continue somewhere else.
