Dean and Sam Winchester relied heavily on the demon-killing knife throughout the duration of Supernatural. However, the weapon may have inadvertently created a plot hole in season 4 that still has fans scratching their heads. Lilith, a formidable villain who posed a significant threat to Sam and Dean, was portrayed by various actresses throughout the show's 15-season run, starting as a child and later as a young woman.
Introduced in Supernatural season 3, Lilith quickly established herself as a force to be reckoned with. In season 4, her demise was crucial for Lucifer's ultimate release into the world. The demon-killing knife had the power to vanquish all kinds of demons, albeit with varying levels of difficulty. While stabbing a more powerful demon might only irritate them, a well-placed impalement would ensure their permanent demise.
Lilith, although never directly confronted with the demon-killing knife, displayed a palpable fear of it whenever Sam and Dean brandished it in her presence. This begs the question: why would Lilith, the first and strongest demon ever created, be daunted by a blade designed to slay lesser demons? Sam and Dean possessed the demon-killing knife, proving to be a valuable asset in their hunt against evil.
Nonetheless, throughout Supernatural season 4, Lilith continuously avoided any encounters with the demon-killing knife, despite her superiority over demons like Alistair and even Crowley. This raises the possibility that the knife never posed a genuine threat to her, as even immensely powerful beings such as the Knights of Hell were somewhat immune to its effects.
