Horror Westerns are a niche subgenre that has not been explored enough in television and film. There are only a few notable examples, such as Kurt Russell's Bone Tomahawk and The Burrowers. A Sam Colt spinoff would introduce fresh storytelling possibilities within the franchise.

While it could maintain the creative essence of Supernatural, it would have its own unique look and tone due to the time period setting. This would allow for grittier storylines, although it may present a departure that some audiences may not immediately embrace. Supernatural creator, Eric Kripke, has previously mentioned that ideas were discussed for a Sam Colt spinoff during the show's third season.
