During the first season of Castiel’s introduction, he mentions how unnatural it is for angels to be on Earth. Castiel also points out that it’s been centuries since they’ve left Heaven, which clashes with flashbacks featuring the character and other angels.
Castiel appeared in the vessel of a female human in an episode set decades in the past, which is hardly that long compared to his claim. Moreover, Uriel, Michael, and Anna were seen in the ‘70s, with none of them acting as if they hadn’t been on Earth for a long time. This makes it unclear why Castiel would later claim that Earth hadn’t been visited by angels.
One of Castiel’s last visits to Heaven saw him learning that it was about to fall due to the low number of angels that remained. Castiel was visibly terrified at the prospect since it would mean that the billions of souls in Heaven would be released, throwing the universe into chaos.
However, Castiel never did anything about it, and this point never became a problem.
